EU – Further Postponing the Expiry Date of a Wood Preservative under BPR

Tiempo estimado de lectura: 28 segundos

Propiconazole was included in Annex I to Directive 98/8/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as an active substance for use in biocidal products of product-type 8 (Wood preservatives). Pursuant to Article 86 of Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 (Biocidal Products Regulation, BPR), it was therefore considered approved until March 31, 2020 under that Regulation subject to the requirements set out in Annex I to Directive 98/8/EC. On October 1, 2018, an application was submitted in accordance with Article 13(1) of BPR for the renewal of propiconazole for use in biocidal products of product-type 8. A full evaluation was considered necessary for this application. In order to allow sufficient time for the examination, the EU Commission has already extended the expiry date for propiconazole twice to December 31, 2022. As the renewal decision is likely to be made after the expiry date of the active substance approval, therefore, the EU Commission is further postponing the expiry date one more year to December 31, 2023.
