IMCO and JURI, as joint Committee are preparing a report on the proposal for a new directive on liability of defective products published in September 2022. The presentation of the draft report took place during the joint committee meeting of 26 April 2023.
The draft report aims to adapt the current EU framework on product liability to the requirements of the digital age and the circular economy. The aim is to ensure that people who suffer injury or damage from defective products can claim compensation. Particular attention was given to a fair allocation of risk, damages recognised under the PLD framework, the disclosure of evidence, as well as alleviation of the burden of proof.
The vote in committee is planned for July 2023.
