The proposed regulatory amendments notified in G/TBT/N/CAN/698 on June 20, 2023, were officially adopted and published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on November 20, 2024, as the Tents Regulations. These new regulations update the flammability and fire-safety labeling standards for tents. – Flammability hazards of modern synthetic tent materials. – Updated the requirements to align with the CAN/CGSB-182.1-2020. Flammability and fire-safety labeling requirements for children’s play tents have been updated. – Flammability performance requirements, ISO 8124-2:2014 Safety of toys — Part 2: Flammability. – Have specific fire-safety labeling requirements under the Toys Regulations. Consequently, the Textile Flammability Regulations have been amended to exclude products covered by the updated Toys Regulations. The new regulations came into force on November 20, 2024, with a two-year transitional period to allow the depletion of existing stock and the introduction of compliant products.
