Europe | ECHA – Call for Evidence and Information on Aromatic Brominated Flame Retardants

Tiempo estimado de lectura: 29 segundos

The European Commission has asked the European Chemicals Agency («ECHA») to review flame retardants, with a particular focus on aromatic brominated flame retardants (ABFRs). ECHA is asked to provide updated information on the hazards of aromatic brominated flame retardants (BFRs) that has become available since the publication of the report «Regulatory Strategy for Flame Retardants», as well as information on hazardous properties of flame retardants that were not covered in the strategy report. Information on uses and available alternatives should also be included in the ECHA report. The report will be the basis for the Commission’s decision on the request to ECHA for the preparation of a restriction dossier. Several calls for evidence are planned to gather information from stakeholders. Information on the use of aromatic brominated flame retardants was requested in the first call for evidence. The second call for evidence will gather information on alternative substances and materials. This call for evidence will close on June 28, 2024.
