This action aims to mitigate the potential for stranded inventory of VRF systems by extending the dates for installation under specific conditions. Deadline Extensions: – Until January 1, 2027: For the installation of certain new variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning and heat pump systems that use components manufactured in or imported into the United States before January 1, 2026. – Until January 1, 2028: For the installation of certain new VRF systems if a building permit approving the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) or blends containing HFCs was issued before October 5, 2023, and the system uses components manufactured in or imported into the United States before January 1, 2026. Effective Date: The final rule will be effective from January 13, 2025.
