The Uruguay Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) has taken a significant step to promote energy efficiency by establishing energy efficiency labelling for LED lamps and tubes – the Technical Regulation on energy efficiency of LED lamps. This Technical Regulation shall apply to all types (shapes and finishes) of LED lamps, intended for general lighting, that meet the following requirements: 1. They are designed to operate on a 230V and 50Hz alternating current network. 2. In the case of non-tubular LED lamps, they have a base: B15d, B22d, Ell, E12, E14, E17, E26, E27, E40, G4, G9, GU10, GZ10, GX53, GX5.3 or GU5.3 3. In the case of double-cap tubular LED lamps (also called ‘LED tubes’), they have a base: G5 or G13. According to MIEM, implementation will be carried out in three phases, starting from July 5, 2025. The labelling will provide details on performance, consumption and energy efficiency parameters, allowing consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing LED lamps and tubes.
