Thailand – Draft Sustainable Packaging Management Act 2024

Tiempo estimado de lectura: 30 segundos

The draft act was proposed by Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in March, 2024, to establish the producer responsiblity on sustainable packaging management. At present, the amount of packaging waste or used packaging is increasing, and used packaging such as glass, paper, metal, plastic is disposed of together with general waste, exceeding the capacity of solid waste management of local governments. These packages also have the potential to be reused to produce new products that meet human consumption needs. Entrepreneurs who produce or import and benefit from the use of packaging should take over the role and responsibility of their packaging after public consumption. In order to reuse it before final disposal, there should be a law to support the implementation of measures or activities that will promote sustainable, systematic and comprehensive packaging management. Responsibilities are defined. There is an organization that takes care with participation from various sectors to make packaging management academic, efficient and cost-effective. Promote the economy and preserve the environment.
