On April 24, the EU Parliament adopted legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on packaging and packaging waste, amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 and Directive (EU) 2019/904, and repealing Directive 94/62/EC . The rules aim to reduce plastic pakcaging waste and to response to citizen’s expectation to buld circular economy. Certain type of plastic packages will be banned since 2030. Formal approval from the parliamen is expected before the rules enter into force.
