To mitigate this hazard, the department now requires these products to meet the updated ASTM F2057-23 safety standard, noting that older versions are no longer considered sufficiently protective. Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, the industry is responsible for ensuring compliance, as Health Canada may take enforcement action-including seizures and recalls-against any products deemed a danger to human health.
