Parliament plays a central role in EU lawmaking, but voting in the hemicycle is only a part of the picture.

Before those big votes, MEPs work to improve proposals drafted by the EU Commission. But how?

Watch our short video explaining the major steps in the lawmaking process.
On 24 February 2026, the Members of the Legal Affairs Committee met in Brussels to vote on the opinion to the interim report on the proposal for the multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034 (2025/0571R(APP)) and on the report on the United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (2025/0233(NLE)). JURI Members also voted on the opinion to LIBE’s report on the Commission’s 2025 Rule of Law report – annual report 2025 (2025/2239(INI)).

Votes on JURI’s own-initiative report on the monitoring the application of European Union law in 2023, 2024 and 2025 (2025/2016(INI)) and on the opinion to IMCO and LIBEs report on Digital Omnibus on AI (2025/0359(COD)) were also scheduled. On the agenda was also an exchange of views on the opinion to the report on the establishment of European Business Wallets (2025/0358(COD)). JURI Members also held jointly with DROI a public hearing on the immunity of United Nations and International Criminal Court officials. The meeting ended with an exchange of views with Michael McGrath, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, in the context of the structured dialogue.
