USA – Draft Risk Evaluations Under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA); Notice of Availability and Request for Comment

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the availability of, and is seeking public comments on, draft risk evaluations under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for two chemicals: Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP) and Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP). – Risk Evaluation Purpose: The evaluations assess whether these chemical substances pose an unreasonable risk to health or the environment under specific conditions of use, including potential risks to exposed or susceptible populations, without considering costs or other non-risk factors. – Findings: Based on scientific evidence, preliminary findings indicate that BBP and DIBP present unreasonable risks to health and the environment, driven by certain analyzed uses. – Use of Best Available Science: The draft evaluations were prepared using the most reliable scientific data and methodologies. – Public Participation: The EPA is encouraging public review and feedback on the draft evaluations to ensure a transparent and comprehensive assessment process. This notice highlights EPA’s ongoing efforts to regulate chemical safety and assess risks to protect health and the environment.​
