India – Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2025

​On July 1, 2025, India’s Ministry of Environment introduced the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2025. These rules set up an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system for 18 products made from non-ferrous metals like aluminum, copper, and zinc. The product list include the following, and more. – cans for beverages, aerosols, – packaging foils for food and pharma products, – utensils, – furniture, – motors, pumps, – conductor cables and wires, strips, – electrical fittings, – aluminum alloy bicycle, – apparel products – toys Under the rules, producers and manufacturers must: Register themselves Meet recycling targets Use recycled materials in production Submit regular compliance reports The rules will take effect on April 1, 2026, and also include obligations for bulk consumers.
