The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released final risk evaluations under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for five phthalates: Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Dicyclohexyl Phthalate (DCHP), Diethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP), and Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP). – The evaluations aim to determine whether these chemical substances pose an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment, without considering costs or non-risk factors. This includes risks to potentially exposed or vulnerable populations identified by the EPA. – Based on the best available science and the weight of evidence, the EPA concluded that all five phthalates present unreasonable risks to human health and/or the environment under specific conditions of use. – Under TSCA, the EPA is required to take risk management actions to address these identified unreasonable risks.
