The hearing, which is organised in the context of the JURI Committee’s work linked to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, aims to provide a platform for representatives of organisations of persons with disabilities and older adults, practitioners, policymakers, and notaries, to provide insights on recent developments and challenges in the area of legal capacity and supported decision-making across Member States.
Additionally, it aims to look at the ongoing legislative work related to the proposal for a Regulation on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of measures and cooperation in matters relating to the protection of adults (COM(2023)0280), for which Parliament adopted its first-reading position in July 2025.
